# Herald Scout

### Herald Scout

Register a **Herald Scout** instance so it can send cluster metadata to Herald and integrate with your SRE workflows.

**How it works**

1. Create a registration below and copy the one-time bootstrap token.
2. When starting Scout, set `SCOUT_BOOTSTRAP_TOKEN` and `SCOUT_CLUSTER_NAME` to your cluster name (use the same name you use to identify this environment).
3. Scout calls the server to enroll and receive a long-lived token, then stores it locally for future runs.

| **Name** | A label for this Scout registration (for example, `Production cluster`). Must be at least 3 characters. |

After you save, a **bootstrap token** is shown once — copy it immediately and configure Scout with it. If you lose the token, create a new registration.
